HERE’S THE COLOUR PALETTE FOR 2013

Say adios to tangerine tango as nature-inspired shades of blue take over

It’s that time of the year when lists become an inevitable part of our lives. And for savvy fashionistas, eager fashion students and seasoned designers, the year’s most important list is out — the colour report released by Pantone Institute for next year. The institute, a global authority on colour forecasts, annually takes up the onus of predicting shades which will make headlines. And their recommendations for 2013, to begin with, ask you to go blue, Monaco blue.
FEELING ZESTY Continuing in the same direction as previous years, the lineup includes many natureinspired shades. The top 10 colours recommended for ladies include Tender Shoots, Grayed Jade, Emerald, African Violet, Poppy Red, Nectarine, Lemon Zest, Dusk Blue, Linen and Monaco Blue.
Designer Namrata Joshipura says that most designers refer to these shades and incorporate them in their collections to stay true to international trends. But, that by no means implies that you need to change your entire wardrobe to look trendy and in tune.
CHEAT TRICKS Says designer Nachiket Barve, “While

it’s good to follow colour trends and know what’s in vogue, colour is an instinctive choice. Shade predictions usually work for brands which mass manufacture high-street clothing. So, the first step for you should be to pick up clothes from those brands in case you want the right shade in your wardrobe.”
He adds, “If don’t want to invest much, just add pops of colour through the right accessories.” Adds designer Surily Goel, “Blue is a good colour to emerge in this list because it suits all skin tones. The hue may have to differ slightly, but overall, the colour works very well and is very easy to adapt. It’s the colour of denim, so it is anyway easy to adapt. In its more water-inspired hues, the colour is going to work very well. It looks especially good in prints (aztec, tribal, etc); perhaps not so much with florals, and that is what makes it easier to use.”
FOLLOW TRENDS, BUT NOT BLINDLY Adds Joshipura, “If you follow colour trends without adding your own bit to it, you can end up looking like a clone. Be sure to personalise the colour.”
Seconds Barve, “Lately, one sees so many ladies going all out to sport tangerine tango. While it is a beautiful shade, it’s a shame to see so many people turn up at events wearing the same shade in the same way. Adding an individual touch enhances the look exponentially. Aim for that.”
