Fulia
Biswas, of Byloom, has
been working with Basak weavers (weavers from Bangladesh who settled in
Fulia in West Bengal’s Nadia district, after Partition) to revive the
jacquard borders used on Tangail saris. “We like to retain old motifs
such as chasme bulbul (dove’s eye), fish scales, old herringbone, but we have changed the colour palette.”
Saris with jacquard borders start at Rs.950. For more information, go to
www.bailou.net or visit Byloom, Kolkata.
