Queen looked like my granny: Raghu Dixit
| ||
Bengaluru-based musician Raghu Dixit was the only Indian musician who performed for the Queen of England, Elizabeth II for the Diamond Jubilee Celebration a couple of weeks ago. Describing the experience as ‘mind numbing’, he says that when he met the Queen, all he could think of was his grandmother. “She looked like my granny!” he says, laughing. Raghu, who had put up a show together with acclaimed Indian contemporary dancer Mayuri Upadhya of Nritarutya met the Queen of England “over cucumber sandwiches, pastries, Earl Grey tea and other classic British eats” along with other artists from across the globe. The outfits for the extravagant show were created by designer James Ferriera. “Our meeting with the Queen was rather quick; she thanked us for coming all the way from India to perform for her. The walk through the grandeur of the castle just blew our minds. It took us back in time through history and the royal lifestyle,” recalls the singer. |
