The idea of hitting the gym
is to sweat it out, lose some kilos and maintain a fit and great
figure. However, that doesn't mean that you have to step out looking drab
after an extensive workout. While basics like having a
shower, or at least washing your face, neck and hands before stepping
out of the gym is a must, it is also important to know some quick-fix
solutions when you want to look hot post your gym workout.
WIPE OFF THE FLUSH
With the increasing intensity of your workout, you will be left feeling
flushed.“For many women, redness of skin is a constant irritant. The best
fix for that is to splash cold water on your face,“ says beauty expert
Salma Khan.“Always carry a cooling mist, prefer
ably rose water, in your gym bag. Spray some on your face every half
hour after wiping off the sweat. This will keep your skin from clogging
and also prevent itch ing and redness,“ she adds.
Use wet
tissues to wipe your face instead of a towel as it might harm
the delicate facial skin. Wet tissues not only cleanse your face,
but also leave behind a whiff of fra grance.
Says Salma, “Many think toner and cleansing milk should
be applied only in the morning or just before you sleep. But, they come
in handy when you are done with your workout too. Just wipe your face
with water, and apply some toner or cleanser. This will completely
absorb sweat from your body . But if you are using cleansing milk,
remember to wipe that off with a small ball of cotton after
application because it will make your face appear oily.“
KEEP A MASCARA HANDY
Always carry waterproof mascara with you. “The biggest
problem with mascara is that it
gets flaky after a while. To avoid that hassle, apply a minute quantity
of face powder on the lashes after using mascara. It helps, especially
after you finish gymming, when the chances of your mascara running down
are more,“ adds Salma.
If you are one of those people who go to
the gym with basic makeup on, then it's advisable to carry a few soft
car wipers with you. “Wet them and just pat it on
your face after workout. It absorbs sweat and leaves the makeup intact,“
says Anahita Shetty , a CA student.
TIE UP LOOSE STRANDS
How you wear your hair during a workout goes a long way in determining
how your hair will look after the session.Says Anahita, “I always wear
my hair in
a high pony and plait it. This way , my hair doesn't fall on my face
while I'm working out or form a wet lump on my back. Tying up your hair
also means no tangles by the end of the session.“ She adds, “Wearing a
headband also helps.“
Has your hair become wet and sticky from exercising?
One
of the easiest ways to dry it is by placing your head under the hand
dryer in the bathroom. Madhavi Devi, a gym instructor, say , “Ensure
you don't stand too close to the dryer. You don't want your hair sucked
in! Meanwhile, keep detangling your hair with your hand to acquire a
wavy , tousled look.“
On the other hand, if you want to smooth
down your hair, just wet your palms and run them through your
hair.“Water reduces frizz and gives lustre to your hair. You can apply a
mild hand cream on your palms before smoothing your hair.
Spraying a toner will give your hair a rich look,“ says Salma.
POWDER YOUR FEET
Your feet are as important as the rest of your
body. “As soon as you remove your gym socks, wash your feet with
antibacterial liquid and pat them dry completely. Apply talcum powder or
moisturising cream on them. Spraying foot deodorant will not only kill
the bacteria, but also make your feet smell good,“ says Madhavi.
They're the kids with the
mostest -biggest nurseries with toys, living a jetsetting life at two
and three years, eating the costliest baby food and they're increasingly
starting to have another advantage to boot their style! With enough
moolah to make that happen, their celebrity parents have actually gotten
these little tykes a fashion designer of their own. While Suri Cruise
was voted Most Stylish Kid in Hollywood and continues to make a splash
with a wardrobe rumoured to be worth up to $3 million, the new kids on
the block may well be contenders for that title, with help from a
qualified designer. The buzz is that Kim Kardashian's toddler North West
actually has extra help to style her wardrobe. North apparently
, already has shoes and dresses to match what Kim wears. Having been
spotted in matching outfits with her mother in the front row at the top
fashion shows, is the baby designer going to give the 16month-old a new
look in the way of little LBDs and shimmering baby rompers? She's not
the only one. Angelina and Brad Pitt's daughter Shiloh-Novel plus
Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, Seal and Heidi Klum and Gwen Stefani
and Gavin Rossdale's young ones too have been styled by designer
Kingsley Aarons. They apparently love his vintage Tshirts. And singer
Beyoncé too, who makes as much a buzz for her gowns and style as her
music, has stylist Ty Hunter to thank for. Not only has he been
overseeing her outfits since she was 13, but he is also reportedly
styling her tot, Blue Ivy . He was quoted as saying the two-and-a-half
year old has “inherited the family's style“.Bey also shared Instagram
photos of Blue in her stilettos.

{An alarming number of young
girls are looking hard for that elusive perfect mate, even while
surrounded by perfectly acceptable male friends
I see so many young female
colleagues and acquaintances eager to marry but unable to find the
right match that it is worrisome. They move around in mixed groups, claim
men as buddies and are willing to settle down and have babies. But when
it comes to the crux, they reject one suitor after another,
preferring the safety of numbers and the freedom of singlehood. I
see this essentially as a problem of too many options. With the freedom
of choice comes responsibility, and it is this responsibility that
doesn't sit well on the shoulders of the young.Decisions become so much
tougher when you have choices. Two
generations ago, a girl just grew up and was handed over in matrimony to
a family and a man, in that order; she had no choice and had to adjust
to her new home and people. From one home to another, not much changed
for her; she played second fiddle to the men in both houses.
A
generation later, the girl was educated, set on a defined career path,
then introduced to a few boys selected carefully by her parents, and
adeptly steered toward the smarter choice. More or less confined at home
till that point with a strictly supervised upbringing, her exposure to
men confined to father or brothers, she saw marriage as a ticket to
freedom and self-determined choices.
But today, by the time the
issue of marriage is raised, she has already been working for a number
of years, is used to and appreciative of her independence, and counts
several men as friends and colleagues. Financial stability and personal
security are no longer her triggers for marriage. Nor is curiosity about
the other sex, or romance and relationships.
Armed with her independence, financial security and a good lifestyle,
she becomes wary of losing it all to one bad
decision. A deep-seated fear has her dithering for so long that it
gets too late. No wonder the average age of
marrying for men and women in the urban landscape is rising as they wait
too long.
I asked a young girl of my
acquaintance why girls in her group didn't choose
to marry one of the many male friends within the circle, when they all
seemed to get along famously. Why were they busy looking for marital
alliances elsewhere. She explained that it is difficult to switch to
thinking romantically about a guy you have considered just a friend.
Moreover, in some cases, the family backgrounds didn't match or
religious considerations came in the way. Sometimes career paths
diverged. “We could,“ she said, “but we are not that sure of each other
in a marital sense. Sometimes, you wait for the guy to offer to make the
switch, at other times the idea seems preposterous.
So we just cruise along as we are, rather than risk
losing a friend.“
Another girl who has a
steady friendship
with one boy (not a
relationship, she specifies)
says the only thing that holds them
back from taking the next step is his fear and commitment phobia.
So many complications, fears and considerations. These young girls
seem to be looking for everything and trying to please everyone, most of
all their own selves. You cannot have it all. Caught between
traditional requirements of status and background on one hand, and their
own desire for romance and
independence on the other, these girls seem to be having a tough time
taking the final step. Often it is at this stage that parents, who have
happily abdicated the marital decision to their children, receive an SOS
and have to gear up to look for arranged matches yet again.
Young girls need to be told that once due diligence is done, one has to
just follow one's gut instinct and go for something with your eyes half
shut. Yes, even for a marriage. In the end, all marriages pan out the
same way, however they may have begun. Nothing but your own sense of
commitment and determination keeps a marriage healthy.
And all
parents need to do is armour children with a good education, sterling
values and a confidence in their choices. And maybe just a little, final
shove over the diving board as they dither.

and gaze at the Himalayas from the comfort of your African safari-style
tent. Camps have become a glamorous affair for honeymooners who want to
romance under the starry sky
Believe it or not but
camping in the wild can be one of the dreamiest experiences. Endless
starry skies, a slight nip in the air and warmth of a bonfire... the
perfect ingredients of a romantic night out. It only gets better in
glamping (glamorous camping) with the whole luxe factor thrown in.
Picture a cozy getaway featuring Swiss tents spread over apple orchards
or pitched next to a tranquil river. “Glamping lets couples enjoy
their honeymoon in the lap of nature, without worrying about hotel
bookings or ordering meals. A guide takes them out for a lovely hike or a
visit to the local temple or a
fruit orchard,“ says Rajinder Singh who runs The Wanderers, a travel
company that specialises in mobile camping and glamping. “Decent
accommodation is hard to come by in the mountains in India and small
guest houses and lodges do not always offer luxurious facilities. But
mobile camping is becoming a choice for modern couples,“ he adds. On
their tours, one vehicle travels with the client and a second vehicle
carries tents with comfy cots and mattresses, dining tents with tables
and chairs, a chemical toilet, kitchen crew and staff. Currently, The
Wanderers operate in Himachal Pradesh, but soon plan to extend to
Arunachal Pradesh,
Sikkim and Uttarakhand.
The glamour quotient in camping probably
draws a lot from the location. What can be a better site than Ladakh
then! Moving beyond nondescript homestays, Ladakh has embraced a hint of
opulence in the form of a few luxury camps. The Ultimate Travelling
Camp (TUTC ) has opened one in Thiksey that has private butlers and
guest travelogists pandering to your demands. From the land of the Lamas
to the tribal land of Nagas (Kohima, Nagaland), TUTC takes opulence to
the most remote corners of India, taking in local flavours and aromas in
the comfort of a lavish campsite.
There is also The Nimmu House in Ladakh with lovely hammocks and lounge
chairs to stretch and snooze in. Their tents are quite chic
with organic European fare and homemade dumplings and soup complet
ing the whole picture.
Kashmir might not be the ideal destination
for honeymooners in the current scenario, but is, nevertheless, a treat
for glamping enthusiasts. Largely synonymous with skiing expeditions and boathouse stays,
Kashmir,
with its expansive valleys and overarching peaks, gives experiences
worth Instagramming. The Ahsan Mount Resort in Sonamarg, starting point
for
some picturesque day hikes, overlooks the river Sind and is nestled in
the midst of a lush forest. The tents offer sweeping views of mountains
and glaciers with private verandas and sun beds to lounge in. “Couples
thoroughly enjoy our sheesha hookah lounge where they can soak in
sumptuous Kashmiri and continental cuisine. The meals are followed by
servings of hot Kashmiri kahwa,“ adds Isam Wani, co-owner of the place
which also organises a beautiful waterfall trek for guests.
However, one needn't always travel great heights to glamp in style in
India. While Rajasthan boasts of many uber luxurious camping
destinations targeting mostly the foreign clientele, Goa and Kerala are
more for the bohemian traveller. Ashvem and Morjim, two of the quietest
and most hassle-free beaches of North Goa, offer some great camping
options. Walking distance from the beach, these tents are more like air
conditioned suites with attached showers, luxury linen, iPod dock and
plush beds. What's more? You're literally steps away from the delish
French restaurant La Plage! Most camps have safes to lock the valuables
and the closet locks as well.
Similarly, Wayanad district of
Kerala has quite a few glamping stopovers located in coffee, nut and
pepper plantations. Hike during the day and
come back to the comfort of an Ayurvedic spa. The Grassroots camp in
Wayanad, for instance, is asso
ciated with an Ayurvedic clinic supervised by qualified doctors to
give their guests spe
cial care. The Hornbill Camp pitched on a coconut grove on the banks
of
river Periyar arranges kayaking expeditions, forest and plantation tours
on the bike and village visits. Known
as the Birder's Paradise, the camp and the adjoining Dr Salim Ali Bird
Sanctu
ary, are home to over 270 species of birds.Don't forget your binoculars!
Glamping sites abroad
Ubud in Bali offers tent lodges with a
view of gorgeous rice fields. The lodges are decorated in contem porary
Balinese style, each one with a private pool, ornate chandeliers and
elaborate wardrobes.
You can experience a starlit sleep over like
no other at the historic Warwick Castle in England. The castle offers
premium tents complete with four-poster beds, thrones and even a Knights
Suite of Armour.
Kenya is considered the epitome of glamping.
You'll find the finest accom
modations in tents imaginable, with four-poster beds, plush towels and
hand-woven rugs. And outdoors, the most spectacular view in the world!
Nepal is a good option for adventur ous glampers. The camping
retreats offer expert guides to escort you on your nature adventure.
They even use fresh organic produce.
With vast open spaces and
ample scenic spots, little wonder camping is one of the favourite
hobbies in both the north and south islands of New Zealand. Hobbit
house-styled camps are a huge hit with tourists.

Festive dressing for guys gets a vintage upgrade this season, with revival silhouettes from Mughal history.
There is more to men's
traditional wardrobe than a simple set
of pajama kurta or a stiff
s h e r wani.Rework
iconic stylish cuts like jama, angarkha, bandi etc. Revisit history
for style tips; think Bajirao Peshwa or refer to Maharana Pratap's
paintings.Tip: Keep the colour palette muted and neutral. Add a punch
of pop in the form of a shawl on your silk, flared
angarkha. This style works best for guys with great physique
and height as this
and height as this body type makes the pattern look more masculine and
stylish.
MAXI ANARKALI
Yes, it's the answer to all your prayers for
versatile and not-too-blingy style pieces. The plain black torso allows
you to experiment with lay
ers of glistening gold chains and chandelier ear rings .
Attending a close friend's wed ding? Put on your heaviest kundan
neck piece for the ultimate ethno-mod ern look. For
a not-so-festive outing, throw an oversized black button-down shirt
with vintage gold enamel brooches on pockets and a metallic black
waist belt.
Tip: Let one chunky jew ellery add to the glamour quotient.
SHEER PLEASURE
Rock the sheer trend by implementing it in
unusual ways. Ditch that fancy, heavy dupatta with latkans and trip ping
borders and sport a short tulle cape instead.
Invest in a
heavily adorned corset blouse; it is a versatile piece that's
modern yet Indi an in its soul. This decon structed saree avatar
resembles the classic Valentino saree gown sported by former first
lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the 1960s.
Tip: Take the pastel route to make sure it looks princely.
MAHARAJA ANDROGYNY
If you're tired of flared anarkalis and messy pleated sarees, it's time to raid your better half's wardrobe.
Think androgyny the maharaja way. A well-cut and beauti
fully-constructed sherwani suit works amazingly on the amazon ian body
type.
To look leaner and taller, go for the placement of vertical embellish ments with tone on tone colour.
Tip: For a Rajputana chutzpah, accessorise with a Rajasthani bor
(ornament for forehead) and complete with classic leather oxfords.
BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK
Time to rethink our traditional colour palette and infuse some offbeat and bold colours, which are often consid
ered less auspicious. For a showstopping look, create styles with
offbeat place ments of grand, contemporary motifs. Balance the
black as well as the opulence of the state-of-art flare by opting for a self-tonal golden body.
Tip: A bold maroon bindi with a pair of delicate chandbalis and a high
bun with fresh jasmine gajra will complement this look perfectly.
MIX AND MATCH
Youthful and experimental men today are daring to try new styles and silhouettes. Layering is the key to suc
cessful dressing.
Modify the stiff sherwani into a short coat and team it with a classic kurta and silk dhoti.
To make this mix-and match per fectly fall in place, focus on the
unique equation of colours and avoid too many embell ishments.
Tip: Restrict the detailing to the sleeves and place the embroidery in a
sporty, striped design as shown in the pic.Complete the look with
classic tie-ups.
YOUR CRASH-COURSE TO CHIC WEDDING DRESSING
It's time to pull out
those textile treasures and flaunt your heirloom heritage. To wear them
with a twist, team a classic gold Kanjeevaram saree with a polo neck
black blouse.
Matching sets are passé. Mix jewels to create unusual layered looks.
Team diamonds with oxidised silver and matt gold jewels with timeless
temple jewellery.
Oxfords with sarees is bold, daring and quirky.
“Make custom lace-up shoes in brocade and silk; they add an element of
surprise to the otherwise traditional saree. For that ex
tra punch, team them with chunky tribal anklets,“ says designer Aniket
Satam.
Nothing defines festivity like a bunch of fresh flowers in
your hair. Couple marigold with dainty yellow floral buds to convert a
simple chignon into a perfumed hairdo. Think pastel chrysanthemums with
pearl pins.
Anarkalis are done to death; it's time to go
back to the classic kurta-churidar look. Think 60s sheath and shift
kurta silhouettes with aligarh pants. Go OTT with 80s style XXL kalidar
kurta with gussets. Try Pakistani kaftans with culottes.
Like
anarkalis, even lehengas need to go back to fashion cemetery for some
muchneeded rest. It's time for leggy shararas and
ghararas. Skirts are now replaced with bifurcated palazzos and elephant
pants that have the grace of flare with the ease of movement.Team them
with ditsy blouses instead of the usual kurti.
Men need to get out of their comfort zone and experiment with fabrics and layering.“Bandi with flared angarkha and pencil churi
dar is cool so is the khadi bomber jacket over simple chikan kurta worn with linen pants,“ says Satam.
Dress
your gadgets in desi attire. Invest in pop kitsch phone and ipad covers
to complement your outfits. A sleek metallic cover goes best with
everything.
