‘Mafia ko mitti me mila denge’: UP CM Yogi Adityanath hits back at SP over killing of BSP MLA murder witness

As the Opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) raised the murder of the prime witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case in the Vidhan Sabha on Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that his government will destroy “mafias and criminals” like former MP Atiq Ahmed, the main accused in the 2005 case.

“Iss House mein keh raha hoon. Iss mafia ko mitti me mila denge (I am saying it in this House, I will destroy this criminal),” the chief minister said in reference to Ahmed. “Jitney mafias hain unko mitti me milane ka kaam karenge (I will destroy all the mafias),” he added.

On Friday evening, a dozen men shot dead lawyer Umesh Pal, the prime witness in the Raju Pal murder case, at his residence in Prayagraj’s Sulem Sarai area under Dhumanganj police station. Umesh was allegedly abducted by gangster-turned-politician Ahmed’s henchmen and threatened not to give a statement in the case.

As the Assembly resumed Saturday morning for a debate on Governor Anandiben Patel’s address, SP members raised the Prayagraj incident. In response, CM Adityanath questioned, “Who sheltered these mafias and criminals? You will first shelter criminals and garland them. And later you will make drama and make allegations on others,”

Leader of Opposition Akhilesh Yadav reacted to the chief minister’s remark and said, “In my party? Tell which party is he (criminal) a member of. Since you have a friendship with Bahujan Samaj Party, you are not taking the name of BSP.”

CM Adityanath replied saying that Ahmed, against whom the victim’s family had lodged an FIR, was a “mafia nourished by Samajwadi Party”. It was the BJP government that took action against him (“uski qamar todne ka kaam kiya hai”), he added.

The chief minister CM also said that the criminal who carried out the act (referring to the Prayagraj incident) was out of UP and was repeatedly elected MLA and MP with SP’s support.

“I repeat, whomever the mafia will be, the government has a policy of zero tolerance and our government will work to destroy those criminals,” he further added.

Akhilesh Yadav objected to the CM’s “mitti me mila denge” remark and demanded a debate on the law and order situation in the state.

Swara Bhaskar Lashes Out At Vivek Agnihotri For ‘Name Calling Muslim Citizens’

Actress Swara Bhaskar has called out The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri for name calling Indian Muslim citizens and blaming them.

Swara took to her Twitter to express her opinion on Twitter. She wrote “Vivek Agnihotri name-calling, swearing at, accusing Muslim citizens on public platforms simply because they are Muslim is a glaring example of how vile, poisoned, bigoted & majoritarian our public discourse has become in ‘New India’. Sickening”.

Her tweet was in response to Vivek Agnihotri’s recent tweet that read “I don’t hate fact-checkers, I hate when puncture repairers pretend to be fact checkers. Because you are nothing but just a jehadi pimp of India’s enemies & I know very well who is behind you. Every jihadi will have his day and your time is just around the corner.”

It all began when Vivek Agnihotri won an award at the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Awards for his last directorial venture ‘The Kashmir Files. As the filmmaker celebrated win on social media, some netizens called out Vivek Agnihotri for misleading his followers mocking his claims on winning an award.

Meanwhile Swara was also recently trolled by netizens for her inter-religion hush-hush court marriage with Muslim man Fahad Ahmad. Many circulated memes requesting her to stay away from the fridge.

Six of those shot, including five children, were taken to area hospitals. The seventh person to be shot was a 17-year-old boy. A bullet seem to have grazed by him and he was also sent to a local hospital. Others injured in the shooting include a two-year-old girl, her 31-year-old mother, two 16-year-old boys, a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy.

Philadelphia Police are searching for three gunmen linked to the incident that happened around 6 pm. All of them were standing at the intersection of 31st and Norris streets when a car pulled up next to them and three men with guns stepped out and started firing.

"There were some people inside of a vehicle, some people on the sidewalk, when the shooters approached," Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said. "We don't believe that all of the victims at this point were intended targets."

Speaking to the media, Commissioner Outlaw expressed anger at the fact that "our shooters are getting younger and younger. Our victims are getting younger and younger. And they have guns".

"If you know that this young person has a gun, of course it's illegal, in your home, you can report that. You can do that anonymously. You can call 911, whatever it is. But we have to get the guns out of the hands of these young people. Be nosy. Know what your young people are doing."

muslim community leaders praise pm narendra modi for abolition of triple talaq and women empowerment

Leaders of various Muslim organisations praised PM Modi's government for taking several steps for the welfare of minorities while attending the "All India Minority Conclave - Role of Minorities in Amrit Kaal" event organised by the NID Foundation.

PM Modi's attack on haters, says - the mantra of unity is heavy on hatred

Expressing his views on abolition of Triple Talaq, the president of Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association India noted that Islam also does not accept the practice of triple talaq.

The step taken against Triple Talaq by PM Modi-led government is a good step. This is a good step towards women's empowerment. We respect this initiative, the chief of Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association India said.

Ahsan Ghouri, director External Affairs, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, also praised Modi for taking steps to take the country on the development path.

“PM Modi has taken many steps for the country and the minorities and it should be appreciated. Good things should be appreciated and we appreciate them,” Ghouri said.

'Stockholm Syndrome', 'Amnesia:' Opposition Trains Guns At Jaishankar Over Remarks on LAC, Gandhis

External Affairs minister S Jaishankar has been on the receiving end from the Opposition over his comments made during an interview on Tuesday with Opposition claiming that the EAM is suffering from “Stockholm Syndrome and amnesia”.

'Stockholm Syndrome', 'Amnesia:' Opposition Trains Guns At Jaishankar Over Remarks on LAC, Gandhis

While speaking to a news agency, Jaishankar mounted an attack on the opposition over the India-China LAC issue, saying that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who sent soldiers to the border and not Rahul Gandhi.

Suffering from Stockholm Syndrome?: Cong’s Supriya Shrinate

However, Congress’s Supriya Shrinate launched an attack on the leader pointing at Jaishankar’s comments mentioning that India is a smaller economy in contrast with the China.

“By saying this, you can hurt the pride of the Army. If we go by this, there will be no one to fight superpowers,” the Congress leader added. She also mentioned that such a controversial statement has not been made by anyone so far.

“What are those photos of Chinese aggression? What is his reaction that our patrolling points now have become buffer zones? What about the bridge being built? Did you advise PM Modi to claim in front of the world that there has been no Chinese incursion? Is this your advice to the government to divert attention from this, Jaishankar ji? Are you suffering from Stockholm syndrome?” the Congress leader said.

Reacting to Jaishankar’s comments on China, Asaduddin Owaisi, also reacted sharply. He asked: “If the government has nothing to hide on the China border crisis, why is it running away from a debate and discussion in Parliament? Why are my questions on the subject denied? Why is media not being taken there?”

He added: “The kind of facetious and irrelevant argument that the EAM gives on China border tells us why control over 2000 sq km of territory has been lost to China by the Modi government? He follows PM’s line of na koi ghusa hai…”

Trinamool Leader Asks If Jaishankar Has Amnesia

Trinamool Congress’ Rajya Sabha MP and former bureaucrat Jawhar Sircar called Prime Minister Narendra Modi “asura” while hitting out at External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The EAM had on Tuesday said that his father, Dr K Subrahmanyam, was removed as Secretary of Defence Production by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi after she returned to power in 1980.

Jawhar Sircar, however, took to Twitter and wrote: “S Jaishankar’s father, K Subramanyam said “Dharma was killed in Gujarat (2002 Riots). Those who failed to protect innocent citizens are guilty of adharma. Rama…would have used his bow against the ‘Asura’ rulers of Gujarat.” Shame on son –serving Asura!”

The comments came after Jaishankar revealed his father was removed as secretary, defence production and was superseded during the Rajiv Gandhi period with someone junior to him becoming the Cabinet Secretary.

Taking a dig at Jaishankar, the TMC leader mentioned that Jaishankar was suffering from “amnesia”, adding that he is just “cuddling up to the BJP.”

“Strange — that Jaishankar discovered his angst against the Gandhis — after serving them most loyally and taking the best of postings under them? Is it Amnesia or is he just cuddling up to BJP for his unprecedented promotion as Foreign Minister?” Sircar wrote on Twitter.

UK: Shamima Begum who left to join ISIS loses citizenship bid. Here’s what happened

Shamima Begum, who left the United Kingdom’s city of London to join the Islamic State (IS) in Syria as a schoolgirl approximately eight years ago, on Wednesday (February 22), lost her appeal against the decision to revoke her British citizenship. She left the UK as a 15-year-old with her two friends who have reportedly passed away in two separate incidents. In 2019, Begum was stripped of her British citizenship by then-Home Secretary Sajid Javid as a national security risk.

Who is Shamima Begum?

The now 23-year-old was born in London to parents of Bangladeshi heritage, Begum left for Syria to join ISIS in 2015. She was reported to be the first woman to leave the UK to join the terrorist organisation two years later, as per Sky News. Begum who was attending the Bethnal Green Academy and resided in eastern London was reportedly radicalised by someone called Aqsa Mahmood.

She went on to marry an IS fighter and gave birth to three children all of whom died as infants. Begum is currently living in northern Syria’s Roj camp which is run by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Her case made international headlines in 2019 after she was found in a displacement camp by a journalist as an “ISIS bride”.

At the time she was nine months pregnant and urged the UK government to allow her to return to her home country to give birth to her child, as per media reports. However, her citizenship was revoked by the home secretary and Begum has since challenged the decision.

The recent verdict

The Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC), rejected Begum’s appeal. Judge Robert Jay, of the commission which hears appeals against decisions to remove citizenship on national security grounds, gave the decision after a five-day hearing in November. In the previous hearing, Begum’s lawyers had argued that it was the home office’s duty to investigate whether she was a victim of trafficking before revoking her citizenship.

Justice Jay, who wrote the judgment published on Wednesday said the commission finds “credible suspicion" that Begum had been trafficked to Syria for “sexual exploitation”. However, this reason was deemed “insufficient” for them to conclude that the home secretary’s decision was unlawful. The ruling also means that she would be barred from entering the UK from Syria, as per BBC.

The SIAC judge also said that the officials in London are seeing this as a “black and white issue” and the government’s witnesses’ evidence to the tribunal “betrayed an all-or-nothing approach”. Whereas, the commission was concerned about the security services’ “apparent downplaying of the significance of radicalisation and grooming, in stating that what happened to Ms Begum is not unusual”, said justice Jay.

The SIAC concluded that there were “arguable breaches of duty on the part of various State bodies” which allowed Begum to leave the country, said Jay, in a summary of the judgement.

“This secretary of state, speaking through Sir James (Eadie KC), maintains that national security is a weighty factor and that it would take a very strong countervailing case to outweigh it,” said the SIAC judge.

He added, “However, under our constitutional settlement these sensitive issues are for the secretary of state to evaluate and not for the commission.” Notably, the commission does not have the power to rule if Begum is allowed to return to the UK, even if it found that her citizenship should not have been stripped.

“Nowhere near over”: Begum’s legal team

In a statement, Begum’s lawyers, Gareth Pierce and Daniel Furner, of Birnberg Pierce Solicitors criticised the ruling and called it a “lost opportunity” to reverse the “profound mistake and a continuing injustice”. They added, “The outcome is that there is now no protection for a British child trafficked out of the UK if the home secretary invokes national security,” as per media reports.

Begum’s lawyers also called her “indefinite detention” in Syria, “unlawful and arbitrary”. According to the BBC, they said the case was “nowhere near over” and the decision will be challenged.

Keeping a beard is sunnat': Muslim cleric Maulana Qari Ishaq Gora reacts to expulsion of 4 students from Darul Uloom Deoband

Saharanpur: Weeks after four students were expelled from Darul Uloom Deoband in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur for shaving their beards, Muslim cleric Maulana Qari Ishaq Gora said that keeping a beard is a 'sunnat' since the holy Prophet Mohammed did the same. Gora is the patron of Jamiat Dawat-ul Muslameen.

The Muslim cleric said that the way Prophet Mohammed spent his life is "sunnat" for Muslims and in the same way keeping a beard is also "sunnat". He further stated that a beard could be trimmed only if it grows beyond the fist length. Gora added that Muslims should follow the lifestyle of Prophet Mohammed.

The Muslim Cleric's statement came almost two weeks after the expulsion of the four students by Darul Uloom Deoband for either shaving the beard completely or trimming it. On Monday, the institute warned the students of immediate expulsion if they trim or shave their beards.

A notice was also issued in this regard. As per the institute, students with no beards will not be considered for admission. According to a report published in The Indian Express, the ousted students tendered an apology.

"In Islam, men are asked to keep their beard to one fist length. It is unlawful to cut it below one fist and shaving it is haram (prohibited) and a major sin," said Maulana Hussain Ahmed, the head of the Education department in Darul Uloom as quoted by the media house. However, it is not known whether the four students have been reinstated.

Burkina Faso: At least 51 killed in attacks by jihadist groups

At least 51 soldiers were killed in an ambush by jihadists in northern Burkina Faso, the army said on Monday, adding that around 160 of the assailants died during the counterattack. The army in its statement said that by the end of Monday (Feb 20), 43 new bodies were found, bringing the death toll to 51, AFP reported.

Burkina Faso: At least 51 killed in attacks by jihadist groups

The attack took place on Friday (Feb 18) in Oudalan province near the restive frontiers with Mali and Burkina. The military patrol in the Sahel region, bordering Niger and Mali was the victim of the "complex" attack between Deou and Oursi.

The military in its statement added, "operations are continuing with an intensification of air actions that have made it possible to neutralise around 100 terrorists and destroy their equipment," the military added.

"This figure is in addition to the 60 or so terrorists neutralised since the beginning of the response."

Attacks have mounted since the start of this year, and have killed over 100 in the last weeks, AFP reported.

The army claimed that "intense fighting" ensued between the military united that had been attacked and an armed terrorist group.

Last month, Burkina Faso's former colonial ruler France confirmed that it would withdraw hundreds of troops stationed in Burkina.

Being one of the world's poorest countries, it is battling a jihadist insurgency that spread from its neighbouring country, Mali.

The violence has led to over 10,000 deaths, as per estimation by NGOs and has displaced at least two million people.

Meghalaya govt denies permission for PM Modi's rally, BJP fumes

The sports department of Meghalaya has denied permission to the BJP to host an election rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at P A Sangma Stadium in Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma's home constituency of South Tura, citing construction work at the venue.

The BJP, fuming over the development, alleged that the ruling National People's Party (NPP), along with the Trinamool Congress and other opposition parties, were trying to stall a "wave of the saffron party" in the state.

Meghalaya govt denies permission for PM Modi's rally, BJP fumes.

The PM was scheduled to participate in campaigning in Shillong and Tura on February 24.

"The sports department has communicated that it will not be fit to host such a big gathering at the stadium as construction work is still going on and materials kept at the site may be of safety concerns. Therefore, an alternate venue at Alotgre cricket stadium is being considered," District Electoral Officer Swapnil Tembe told PTI.

The stadium, built at a cost of Rs 127 crore, with 90 per cent of the funds borne by the Centre, was inaugurated by the CM on December 16 last year.

BJP national general secretary Rituraj Sinha said he was amused how a stadium can be declared "incomplete and unavailable" for use for the PM's rally just two months after inauguration.

"Is Conrad Sangma and Mukul Sangma scared of us (BJP)? They are trying to stall the BJP's wave in Meghalaya. You can try and stop PM's rally but the people of the state have made up their minds (to support the BJP)," he said.

Sinha asserted that seeing people's response to rallies of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other star campaigners of the BJP, other parties have been taken aback.

Senior BJP leader A L Hek said the PM will hold a roadshow in Pynthorumkhrah constituency in Shillong on February 24.

PM Narendra Modi Tweets on Nandamuri Taraka's Demise, Asaduddin Owaisi Reminds 'Wazir-e-Azam' of Bhiwani Killings

AIMIM Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the recent killing of two Muslim men in Bhiwani allegedly by the members of a right-wing group after the PM tweeted his condolence over the demise of Tollywood star Nandamuri Taraka Ratna. Taking to Twitter, the AIMIM chief tweeted, “Sir @narendramodi Junaid & Naseer were kidnapped & beaten and burned to death by so-called 'Gau Rakshaks', both where young have small children. Please a tweet to express your grief Wazir e Azam for these 2 stars of Meo Muslims.”

The AIMIM MP tagged the PM on Twitter in response to the latter’s tweet expressing condolence over the demise of Telugu actor and politician Nandamuri Taraka Ratna. It may be recalled that Nasir (25) and Junaid alias Juna (35), both residents of Ghatmeeka village in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan, were allegedly abducted on Wednesday and their charred bodies were found inside a car set ablaze by right-wing members in Bhiwani in Haryana on Thursday.

Out of the two, Junaid had a criminal record of cattle smuggling and five cases were registered against him at different police stations, a police officer said. The family members of the deceased had named five men linked to the Bajrang Dal in their complaint to the police. A court in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district sent one of the accused, Rinku Saini, to police remand on Saturday in connection with the death of two Muslims.

Sharing more information, Station House Officer, Gopalgarh, Ramnaresh Meena said, “The arrested accused Rinku Saini was produced before the court today from where he was sent to five days police remand. The accused will be further interrogated.”

He, however, said that no fresh arrest has been made in the case so far. Saini, 32, a resident of Firozpur Jhirka in Haryana’s Nuh district, was arrested on the basis of interrogation and technical analysis on Friday night. He works as a taxi diver and was involved with a cow vigilante group, the police said.

Meanwhile, the last rites of the two, who were related to each other, were conducted on Friday after authorities announced a compensation of Rs 20.5 lakh to each of the affected families. One of the main accused in the case is Mohit Yadav alias Monu Manesar, the Gurugram district president of Bajrang Dal.

He was earlier named in an attempt to murder case registered at Pataudi police station in Gurugram on February 7. While on the run, Manu Manesar released a video message claiming his innocence in the Rajasthan case.
